Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East
Board of Commissioners
Pursuant to R.S. 38:330.1 et seq., notice is hereby given that applications are being accepted for persons interested in serving on the Board of Commissioners for the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (SLFPA-East). There are a total of nine (9) members serving on the Board of Commissioners. Three terms have expired to create vacancies on July 1, 2009. A nominating Committee comprised of civic, professional and academic organizations shall review applications and recommend individuals for appointment by the Governor and confirmation by the Senate. The Nominating Committee is comprised of representatives from the following organizations: the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana, Council for A Better Louisiana, Louisiana Geological Survey, Association of State Floodplain Managers, National Society of Black Engineers, UNO College of Engineering, Tulane University School of Science & Engineering, Southern University College of Engineering, LSU College of Engineering and American Society of Civil Engineers.
Three (3) vacancies create one (1) opening of a four-year term for a resident of Orleans, one (1) opening of a four-year term for a resident of St. Bernard and one (1) four-year term for a resident of St. Tammany. Once the three new members are appointed, the board must meet the residency and occupational qualifications defined below.
QUALIFICATIONS & RESIDENCY
There shall be at least, and not more than, one (1) member from each parish within the territorial jurisdiction of the authority. The territorial jurisdiction includes St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa Parishes and the east side of the Mississippi River in Jefferson, Orleans, St. Charles and St. John the Baptist Parishes. The remaining members shall reside outside of the territorial jurisdiction and may live anywhere in the world, subject to qualifications.
Engineering/Related Field
Five (5) members shall either be an engineer or a professional in a related field such as geotechnical, hydrological, or environmental science. Of the five members, one member shall be a civil engineer.
Non Engineering Professional
Two (2) members shall come from fields other than engineering or related field and have ten (10) years of professional experience.
At Large Members
Two (2) members shall be at-large.
