To engineers, architects and interested parties

The current building codes for the City of New Orleans, as you know, are part of the series of the International Code Council family of codes.   The building (IBC), mechanical (IMC) and the fuel gas (IFGC) 2006 editions, are the current adopted codes being enforced by the City at this time.

For your convenience we present the Permit Requirements and Permit Exemptions from the International Building Code, 2006 Edition

If you would like to view the City of New Orleans Amendments to the above 2006 codes, go to the city’s website www.cityofno.com.    On the upper bar, click on “Residents” then curser down to “Safety and Permits”. Follow that link to the bottom of that page to the shaded “Code Amendments Updated”, and choose the code amendment (building, mechanical or fuel gas) you desire to view.   Or you can click here and look at the bottom left of the page for the
Code Amendments Updated” section.

[Note: Chapter 27 of the building amendments lists the electrical amendments and Article 135 of the mechanical amendments lists stationary engineer and hoisting & portable requirements].    At the City’s website you can also check other functions required for city actions or activities.
